40-yard Dash

What it is: A timed sprint over 40 yards from a stationary start (typically a three-point stance).

Importance
: The gold standard for measuring straight-line speed and acceleration. Scouts use it to assess explosiveness (10-yard split) and top-end speed (40-yard time), critical for skill positions like WR, DB, and RB.

5-10-5 Shuttle

What it is: Three cones placed 5 yards apart. Athletes start at the middle cone, sprint 5 yards to one side, touch the line, sprint 10 yards to the opposite cone, touch the line, then finish back at the starting cone.

Importance: Tests lateral agility, quick direction changes, and body control—key for positions like LB, RB, and DL.

Vertical Jump

What it is: A measure of how high an athlete can jump from a standstill, calculated by the difference between standing reach and max jump height.
